How We Lost the Spirit of Halloween

Halloween used to be so much better decades ago, or at least it seems as if it was. Trick or Treat was done after dark by the light of the neighborhood street lamps. Parents didn’t need to make sure there weren’t razor blades or needles in their childrens’ candy handed out by neighbors. Kids used to make their own costumes and actually use their creativity and imagination in creating their Halloween costumes.

For example, this child’s costume was supposed to be a cute little rabbit. To today’s standards, this wouldn’t be a cute rabbit, but a terrifying bunny-like demon from a nightmare.

And what the hell is the guy between the two girls (Little Bo Peeps?) supposed to be? We can’t figure it out, but he’s creepy and we would be uncomfortable to see him at a Halloween party.

This last one reminds us of a horror movie.

These are perfect examples of how Halloween has become not scary and way too commercialized and… cute. You never see things like these anymore.

I guess you could say all is not lost, though. You’ll still find people who still have the spirit of Halloween strong inside their hearts. Take these weirdos, for example.

These animal masks are really creepy and off-putting. That’s how you should feel when seeing someone’s costume.

These people took it a step further and put a mask on their dog, with some very creepy results. Imagine going into someone’s house and seeing that running up to you. The Halloween spirit force is strong with this one.

So how can we bring back the true spirit of Halloween? One thing you can do is watch a few classic horror movies. They pretty much invented spooky.

You could also get creative and make your own Halloween costume this year. Use the spookiness inside to be something no one else will be this Halloween.
